JACKMAN – JOHNNY DESERVES MORE CREDIT

Bernard Jackman has said that Johnny Sexton who performed creditably well in Ireland’s game against the France Rugby team proved his doubters wrong.

Sexton who recently returned from an injury, led Ireland to an impressive win over France on Saturday.

With that performance, he has thus given an answer to his critics who feel that the number 10 should be left to Paddy Jackson instead of the Leinster man. France will be looking to the IRFU model so as to be able to restore the international fortunes of the team.

Jackman noted that the game was most likely to be won by Ireland after a smart performance by the team and a successful navigation of a tricky first half. He noted that Ireland was able to minimize the attacking play from France which saw their French counterparts defending much more than they were attacking.

Taking possession counts into consideration, he noted that Ireland was pretty dominant in that aspect, and played the game in the right areas as well. He was pretty pleased that they had beaten France by more than a score. Continue reading JACKMAN – JOHNNY DESERVES MORE CREDIT

CLERMONT DEFEATS BORDEAUX IN ALL-FRANCE RUGBY BATTLE

In a hugely entertaining Champions Cup clash played at the Stade Marcel Michelin, Clermont came away with a 49-33 defeat of fellow French Rivals, Bordeaux.

The start of the game saw Bordeaux start out strong as crosses for tries were made Jean-Marcel Buttin and Jayden Spence. At each occasion, was Ian Madigan kicking in the extra points.

Minutes later, Clermont’s Noa Nakaitaci scored while an addition of the extras was made by Parra, thus handing the lead to the hosts before tries were run in by both Alexander Lapandry and Wesley Fofana.

However, Buttin posted his second try, thus giving Bordeaux a bonus of their own, before he went on to set up Met Talebula, while a late consolation was scored by Gauthier Doubrere.

On the other hand, the head coach of Leinster, Leo Cullen had bemoaned the concession of cheap tries after his side had lost in the Europeans Champions Cup, at the Altrad Stadium, losing 22-16 to Montpellier.

“It was a strange game, really strange. Those conditions were difficult and it led to it being quite a scrappy game in the first half in particular,” Cullen said. Continue reading CLERMONT DEFEATS BORDEAUX IN ALL-FRANCE RUGBY BATTLE

Twelvetrees set to miss European match

Billy Twelvetrees is a huge doubt for European Challenge Cup quarter-final match against Newport Gwent Dragons. The Gloucester centre endured a hip wound against Bath and he was ruled out of previous week’s loss to Leicester Tigers rather than rested.

Wales Rugby Team future in jeopardy

Rhys Priestland, the Wales Rugby Team and Scarlets fly half has admitted that he fears for his future with the national team following the confirmation of his move to the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club Bath Rugby in the summer.

Wales’s manager Warren Gatland has an unwritten rule, much like his England counterpart Stuart Lancaster, of only selecting players based in the country and playing for the four region sides while picking his squad. But Priestland has said that he cannot think about that anymore and he is happy that he has decided to make the move to England at this point in his career.
